Hospice of the Western Reserve Case Study

About the client

The Hospice of the Western Reserve is a non-profit hospice organization based in the Cleveland, Ohio area. HWR focuses on providing quality end-of-life care that helps patients get the most out of their remaining days, and on providing extensive support for the patient’s loved ones before and after the patients pass. We met the staff at HWR while filming a documentary series, and after seeing the episode featuring the organization, they called us to help them with a video campaign.

the challenge

Hospice care is a sensitive topic, and there are many misconceptions about what is involved. One common misconception is that hospice is simply a place for terminally ill patients to go to spend their final days. HWR wanted to emphasize its role in providing quality of life at the hospice facilities as well as the patients’ own homes, and also the extensive support services for loved ones and caregivers that sets HWR apart from other, for-profit hospice services.

The solution

We created several videos for HWR, including this mission video as well as shorter pieces focusing on individual services such as the African-American outreach program and bereavement support for patients’ families. The videos are intended not only for potential patients and their families, but also to increase awareness among potential donors.

Benefits: This video

  • Dispels some of the misconceptions about an important end-of-life decision

  • Brings awareness of HWR’s mission to serve patients and their families

  • Assures patients that at-home care is a viable alternative to being in a facility

  • Opens the door for an option other than hospital care for end-of-life patients
